Anyone who follows me on social media this year has unfortunately had to watch me descend into madness week after week as TBHX aired. To say this series has occupied my thoughts is the understatement of the century. I requested these four, but really I'd also be happy to get a gen ensemble piece featuring any of the nominated characters (of which there are so, so many).
I don't mind an unhappy or ambiguous ending for a fic set in this fandom. No need for a happy ending when there are so few in canon. Also, I don't care what version of the names you use for any of the characters. Whatever you’re comfortable with is fine by me.
As for these four, I give permission for any of the following character configurations: any of the four alone in a solo character examination piece, gen featuring any combination of the four requested characters, and then the ships Original Nice/Wreck, Original Nice/Yang Cheng, Dragon Boy/Yang Cheng, or Dragon Boy/Original Nice. I also love Yang Cheng/Shang Chao, and I would have requested Shang Chao, too, if I could have requested five characters!
Prompts:
- Something set in the canon world after season 1's present timeline, especially during the upcoming tournament. Backroom machinations with the requested characters interacting with the agency heads would be very welcome here.
- Whatever Yang Cheng is doing during the tournament. Maybe he's just hanging with Yan Mo|Rock or maybe he's sent on a subterfuge mission. Maybe he's pissed off about his last-second elimination. I would like it if he's pissed off.
- AUs are great for this fandom. I don't usually go in for mundane AUs much, but I honestly think it would be hilarious to have them all working in a coffee shop or going to University together with much lower stakes. Dragon Boy would be an awful roommate. I want to see it. I hope he still goes by Dragon Boy.
- Nice/Wreck is fairly self-explanatory as a ship. I would love anything about them growing up together with Wreck tolerating Nice being a giant Smile fanboy, or something about when they originally enrolled in Treeman's hero training program. Angst set when Wreck is cast as a villain would be amazing. Angst set as Nice was “ignoring” Wreck or after Wreck’s fight with Lin Ling would also be amazing.
- Speaking of angst, I'm also fine with getting a fic where Nice is in his current broken state. What’s his deal? Is he the walking dead? Is his actual self trapped inside this reanimated body and can be rescued? Also, to go back to Nice/Wreck for a second, I also think the theory that Graffiti King is Wreck with a new hero persona is really, really fun, and would love getting the two of them that way, too.
- Original Nice/Yang Cheng comes from that moment when they're sent to infiltrate the alien ship crash site and kill all the scientists. Nice has such a disgusted look on his face when E-Soul shows up, and it still makes me laugh to think about it. Do they have beef? Are they exes somehow?? Or is Nice just mad that there will be witnesses from another agency? They get completely beaten and it’s all covered up anyway, so it doesn't really matter, but I'm still interested in them interacting. Nice seems like the type to be sent on covert seduction missions, and I would like it if Yang Cheng was his mark. It just seems like yet another way for Shang De and Yan Mo to use their most manipulated heroes as miserable proxies.
- Dragon Boy/Yang Cheng has almost no justification, but I saw some fanart and the ship name SoulDragon and my brain did a ! thing. You know how it is. I think these manipulated Mighty Glory heroes could really have some fun together. At the very least, I think they could maybe team up to kill Yan Mao|Rock together. That’s fun, right? I also think Dragon Boy, who’s apparently allergic to shirts, would have some things to say about E-Soul never taking his helmet off. Helmet removal is sexy, right?
- Dragon Boy/Original Nice also has almost no justification, but I just get the feeling that Dragon Boy would like messing with a guy who came back from the dead. Plus, their knock-down, drag-out fight directly led to the events of the first and last episodes, which I think Dragon Boy would find extremely funny. I don't see this as a happy love match or anything, but I think something angry and angsty with a broken or grumpy Nice would make a very nice Yuletide present for me.
- And again, even though I didn’t request Shang Chao, I’d also be very happy to get Yang Cheng/Shang Chao fic. Really, I'd take them any way I can get them. I like the idea of unrequited with Shang Chao pining from afar in canon before he dies. Or maybe bringing back Nice means that Shang De finally knows how to bring back his son, too, and man, would that ever mess Yang Cheng up. Shang De would definitely bring him back wrong. I'd also be all for a happy AU for them because they both really need that. Xia Qing and/or Pomelo inclusion is also fine here!
Beautiful Mind - Tom Cardy & Brian David Gilbert
Psychiatrist, Patient

Name these two whatever you want. Call them Tom and Brian if that's easiest, but I’m fine with renaming the characters, or leaving them nameless.
We love a five-minute fandom, don't we? I periodically get obsessed with Tom Cardy's music and the possibilities therein, and him dragging Brian David Gilbert into the mix is only a plus. I'm really happy that the song's psychiatrist and patient found their destiny in each other, so any exploration of that would be fantastic, romantic or otherwise. Maybe the patient decides to go into psychiatry, too, to see if there are any other beautiful minds out there. Maybe the psychiatrist struggles with the knowledge that his soulmate is a patient and the moral and ethical quandaries that introduces. Maybe they go out into the world together to look for ways to travel through space and time, or they just find a bear learning how to water ski.
Prompts:
- The psychiatrist introduces the patient to his family who apparently told him he'd never amount to anything, or maybe he just shows the patient his favorite movie, Speed 2.
- There's a moment in the psychiatrist's montage where someone's telling him, "Look into my eyes, can't you see I love you dearly?" so, like, what's with that?
- Maybe take a less realistic route where they can jump into each other's Rorschach visions because their bond is so strong.
- In the video for this song, Brian David Gilbert's hair is really good once he takes it out of the ponytail, isn't it? That's not a prompt, I just wanted to say that. Level Clear! - Tom Cardy
Hero, Boss

Name these two whatever you want, or leave them nameless. This can be based off of just the song, or the extended worldbuilding that the video introduces, such as things like the hero being Super European laborer sibling saving the Princess or finally opting to walk away from the game at the end of the song.
Something about the relentless pursuit of happiness, achieving it, and still never being fulfilled is a real punch to the gut, and Tom Cardy is really good at introducing deep topics and approaching them in the stupidest way possible. I'd like to see the hero and the bad guy come to some sort of agreement to coexist together as allies or friends or romantically because the song makes it clear that they're pretty wrapped up together. As the bad guy says, "Even if you did defeat me, what would you do then?" and clearly the hero trying everything under the sun doesn't really work to erase the high of conquering his enemy.
Prompts:
- A sequel that's a golden route with the hero and the resurrected bad guy having to work together!
- Something that's set within the canon of the song with the hero constantly running into the bad guy, or at least who he thinks is the bad guy, even as he becomes a lawyer, travels, gets married and has kids, saves the world through altruism, runs a crime syndicate, becomes the best sportsman in the world, becomes a priest, astronaut, cures disease, and becomes #HamGuy. Is the boss a hallucination or are their destinies really that entwined?
- If pursuing the new mode unlocked route from the video where the hero says screw this and walks away, how does the bad guy come back into the mix? Are they just, you know, normal guys now?

Sasaki to Miyano
Miyano Yoshikazu, Sasaki Shuumei

Repeat request from last year!
Sasaki and Miyano are my two favorite weirdos in love. I love that their slow burn actually led to something canonical, and I love how careful Miyano was as he considered Sasaki's confession, even though making him wait six months for an answer almost killed me. I know only the manga is in the tagset, but if you're anime-only or haven't read the last couple of manga volumes, I don't mind you branching off from another point for something canon-divergent. I'm very much into Sasamiya as a ship, though if you want to write something non-romance focused like Miyano getting used to his first weeks at university, that would be great!
Prompts:
- Sasaki and Miyano moving in together either once Miyano is in university or afterward. That's a pretty big step for people so young, even if it's a logical one. How do they navigate that?
- In volume 10, there's a whole canon-divergent extra where Sasaki doesn't seek Miyano out after Kuresawa gets beaten up, but later, as adults, they wind up being introduced and sharing an apartment due to circumstances. I would love more of this AU, especially since the extra stops short of them getting together. If you haven't read it, any AU where they meet later, become roommates, and get together would be amazing.
- At Sasaki's class's graduation, Hanzawa was already planning a reunion for the following March. I'd love to know how that goes. Are significant others invited so Miyano can see how the class ahead of him is doing, or does Sasaki come find him afterward to decompress and kiss? I'd love future fic that's just a little leap forward.
- Speaking of future fic, I'd also love anything that takes a big leap forward in time. Them taking an international trip together. Them having a major disagreement that leads to them taking a break— or breaking up completely, only to get back together later. Them getting married! Them at 50 with Sasaki still in love, even if Miyano looks different from way back when they first met.
- Their first time getting off together. It's definitely more of a when than an if for them, so how does it go? I wouldn't mind something a little awkward and not perfect that makes them both feel unsure, and how they work through that afterward. A round two that's more relaxed could also be good.
- Miyano getting over his whole 'not a uke' thing because he trusts Sasaki so much and he's worked though his internalized whatever. YMMV, but to me, whenever he says that it always comes off more as him not wanting other people to think something expected of him, rather than just a personal hard preference. Miyano really seems to hate being predictable. I also think that conversation would be sweet and funny, and the aftermath adorable. Also, his boyfriend is big and strong and cute and would take great care of him, and Miyano seems pretty into that.
Bang Brave Bang Bravern (Anime)
Ao Isami, Lewis Smith | Bravern

Mostly a repeat request from last year!
Bravern absolutely rewrote my brain when it came out. It gave me everything I've always wanted in a mecha anime, and several things I had no idea that I wanted.
For my fic's character interactions, I want Isami in it no matter what, and I also want some iteration of Lewis included, but I don't care if Lewis is Lewis or Bravern or both. Something like just Isami realizing while in Bravern that Bravern is also Lewis would be great, but I'm also fine with Isami/Bravern or Isami/Smith alone.
Isami and Smith had one of the best canonical love stories I've watched possibly ever, and that applies to Isami and Bravern as well, so I'd love a story where they make those feelings obvious and consummated. If you really just want to write about them fighting aliens or boxing or chilling with Lulu, that's all cool, too. Gen stories involving Lulu and Superbia or any of Isami and Smith's coworkers would also be fun as hell!
Prompts:
- Expansion on the ending, maybe a re-examination of the canon events from Smith's POV now that we know that he's also Bravern. How much of Smith's humanity was in Bravern while uhhhh Isami was inside Bravern? Was it all him? Did he have all his memories the whole time?
- There's so much fun AU official art for this series, so I'd love an AU revolving around any of those. I'm thinking things like the real life hotel fantasy suite that's decorated with body pillows and a giant Bravern peering through the window, that collaboration with Japanese professional wrestling, or the Halloween thing where Lewis is a vampire.
- Give me that beach scene with Bravern and Isami without Lulu interrupting. That was so romantic that I almost forgot it was some dude about to make out with his giant mech.
- I'll just say it: Bravern/Isami robofucking. I don't really care about the logistics here. Something science-y like Bravern tapping into Isami's synapses while he's in the mech and getting him off would be super-fun and cool, but so would completely out there things like Isami just being magically able to get screwed by a robot and love it. The series wants us to want this, and I'm nothing if not agreeable.

I'm thinking things like the real life hotel fantasy suite that's decorated with body pillows and a giant Bravern peering through the window, that collaboration with Japanese professional wrestling, or the Halloween thing where Lewis is a vampire.
- Give me that beach scene with Bravern and Isami without Lulu interrupting. That was so romantic that I almost forgot it was some dude about to make out with his giant mech.
- I'll just say it: Bravern/Isami robofucking. I don't really care about the logistics here. Something science-y like Bravern tapping into Isami's synapses while he's in the mech and getting him off would be super-fun and cool, but so would completely out there things like Isami just being magically able to get screwed by a robot and love it. The series wants us to want this, and I'm nothing if not agreeable.
