Yuletide 2016 Letter

It's that time of year again! Hello, Yuletide writer, happy to foist my wants on you. :D I think this is my 13th time doing Yuletide, which is just insanity. But it's the only thing I still reliably do in fandom because it's so much fun and I want you to have fun! I'm an easy assignment, really. I like gen! I like shippy fic! I like all ratings! I do prefer happy endings most of the time, but if you're really pulling yourself in a not-happy ending direction and it makes sense, I'm sure I can get behind that too. I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] Marks on AO3 and [tumblr.com profile] nonnegative on tumblr, if you want to poke around to see what I'm into.

Here are some basic guidelines, but go nuts if that's more your thing:

Likes: hurt/comfort, sex pollen, wingfic, kissing, bodyswap, uptight characters totally losing it, rich characters losing their wealth for whatever reason, repression, fake marriages/dating, huddling for warmth, being stuck somewhere due to kidnapping or avalanche or [insert whatever reason you'd like here], that thing where one thing in canon diverges so everything is different but familiar and only one character is aware that anything's happened, Groundhog Day AUs. Also, I've been weirdly into one character hypnotizing another lately? I don't know, feel free to do something with that.

Dislikes: lots of background pairings, bashing canonical pairings, most mundane modern AUs, gore, major character death, BDSM, power differentials, A/B/O dynamics

Now for my specific requests:

Spring Awakening - Sheik/Sater
Characters: Hanschen Rilow, Ernst Robel

There's a fair amount of cute fic for these two, but most of it is set in modern times and typically in America. Which, I get the urge! Everything's so bleak in the actual musical's setting and of course all the songs are modern rock reflections of the canon time period. It makes sense! But I really do want something set in canon. Or if you wanted to set things in another time period, maybe something after WWII or during German reunification. Obviously, they're a canon pairing so I'm fine with shipping them, but if you wanted to explore something about the two of them without focusing on their relationship, that would be okay. Or go backward and figure out when Hanschen started taking interest in Ernst and why! I'd also love it if you went with the most recent Broadway revival characterization where Ernst is deaf. The extra layer of repression in the boys' school was really interesting. Life-affirming making out as a method of dealing with the post-musical aftermath grief might be fun, for certain definitions of fun.

My favorite characterization for Hanschen is "starts out trying to seduce Ernst but gets a case of the feelings, and is kind of pissed off about it" and for Ernst is "innocent but not ENTIRELY innocent, come on."

Oh, I've also seen/read Wedekind's play (well, an English translation of it) so if you wanted to incorporate elements of that in your fic, too, I'd be all for that. I love the musical's jerk!Hanschen, but I don't mind a softer characterization, either.

Heathers (1988)
Characters: Veronica Sawyer, Heather Duke

Oh please, give me all the aftermath fic. I would LOVE some aftermath fic. I want to see Veronica feeling awful for mourning over JD, I want to see Veronica and Heather Duke butting heads and/or coming to some sort of agreement, and maybe both sort of resolving themselves to the influence Heather Chandler had on both of them, both while she was alive and afterward.

I would also love it if you decided to set the aftermath a couple of years down the road when they've both fled off to college, and everything that might entail. Pairing them up is just fine by me, especially if it's a situation where they're both mad about it!

I also occasionally turn over the idea that JD was a figment of Veronica's imagination, so if you wanted to do something with that, that would be super cool.

The Good Place (TV)
Characters: Eleanor Shellstrop, Chidi Anagonye, Tahani Al-Jamil

This show is so good and I knew I had to request it for Yuletide. I'm really up for basically anything for this fandom, especially since we're still in such early days. So far I'm kind of shipping Eleanor/Chidi and Eleanor/Tahani! There's all sorts of actor chemistry there. If you think you want to make Chidi/Tahani work, go for it. I'm definitely intrigued. I'd love to see your take on what The Good Place really is, or some reincarnation story, or something where Eleanor is discovered for the medium-terrible person she is. Also, I'd love appearances from any other character. So far everyone is great.

Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo
Characters: Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck

Spoilers follow!

Another new fandom for me! I literally started reading Six of Crows less than a week ago. And, uh, I finished Crooked Kingdom yesterday. So no worries about spoilers here. I haven't read The Grisha Trilogy, but I know a fair amount about it and I plan on reading them next, so don't worry about spoilers there, either.

Wylan is so precious. I have a thing about rich characters who are disowned by their terrible families for whatever reason. I didn't realize it was a thing until recently, but it's a recurring theme for me, so might as well lean into it. And Jesper is basically my other favorite archetype: the joking sidekick with cool stuff who has hidden emotional depths. Argh, just give me whatever you want for them. I was clutching my heart as Jesper realized he didn't just think Wylan was hot, but had real feelings for him. Give them another heist, have them navigating the bumps of a real relationship, have Jesper take Wylan to the Fahey family farm, have Wylan helping Jesper with his gambling issues or his Grisha training, or have Jesper get creative in helping Wylan with his reading problems. Feel free to include any other characters; this is a great canon with lots of characters I really loved.

I know that feel, bro. It immediately made my request list, as well. *g*

Yeah, I had half-written my request, but I didn't finish my letter until I was sure nothing too ruinous happened in Crooked Kingdom.
